Making Waves for Autism
I'm the founder of an event called Making Waves for Autism.
The inspiration behind Making Waves for Autism is my cousin Tyler, who passed away unexpectedly in August 2023, leaving behind a young son on the autism spectrum. One of Tyler's greatest passions was raising awareness and funds for autism. Prior to his passing, he was planning a charity boxing event in support of Autism Canada. However, he passed before bringing that dream to life. To honour his legacy, I decided to fulfil it in my own way. It originally started out as a small idea: paddle 365 kilometers for autism. However, the idea took on a life of its own , and very quickly Making Waves for Autism was born. In its inaugural first year, Making Waves for Autism raised over $45,000, thanks to the incredible support of donors like you. This success led to the early launch of Autism Canada's Community Assistance Program in October 2024, months ahead of schedule. This program will transform lives by providing vital support to families across the country. Needless to say, this got me thinking bigger. So, for the 2025, Making Waves for Autism is going national. Individuals and teams will be able to choose their own challenges and paddle to make a difference, ensuring Tyler’s legacy continues to improve outcomes for autistic individuals across Canada. Together, we can create real, lasting change. Join the movement, donate, and help us make waves of hope and inclusion. Let’s make 2025 our biggest year yet! |
